In Place of Convalescence (2023)

This work was first choreographed at Indiana University as a part of the IU Contemporary Dance BFA’s annual Junior Choreographic Performance Project, In Place of Convalescence delves into the challenge of coping with trauma and the emotional labor of trying to maintain your regular life and obligations, putting that trauma and grief to the side. Inspired by the challenges I have had with mental illness, grief, and overwork, I wanted to explore the shame and fear than can come from coping with grief and trauma, not wanting to burden others with those challenges and the fear appearing fragile or weak, as well as the impact that shame has on the relationships people have with one another.
