As an artist…

I am a dancer, choreographer, academic, and advocate who works to unveil and explore the depths of the human condition through dance and movement. My work draws on the human experience both personally and in literature, film, music, and history, utilizing contemporary movement techniques to create an embodied exploration of humanity for both the dancers and the audience.

As a choreographer, I find myself inspired by the ties between history, literature, and art and I view dance as an opportunity to make abstract, academic, and internal concepts and experiences into a humanistic and kinesthetic experience. An exploration of the human condition is an exploration of history and literature, of politics and sociology, of art and experience. Dance creates a universal physical language that can convey these abstract, challenging, or inaccessible concepts.

In September 2024, I set a previous work, “In Place of Convalescence,” on two members of the Fort Wayne Dance Collective Professional Company and took it to Detroit, MI, to be performed on the Detroit Dance City Festival’s Rivera Court Stage. Moving forward, I am currently choreographing my first evening-length work, As I Return to the Earth, which will be debuting at Indiana University in February 2025. As I Return to the Earth will showcase a primarily new body of work, with two previous pieces being reworked and integrated within the narrative of the showcase. This work deepens my desire to delve into the human experience, unpacking and exposing the turmoil and isolation of growing up with chronic mental illness, and the constant growth, change, and support needed for recovery to be possible.
