a plea to the void (2024)
a plea to the void was originally choreographed as a part of the Advanced Choreographic Investigations 2024 showcase, “Prism of Motion.” This work came out of a very challenging time for me where I was considering my place in the world, feeling a sense of disaffection and hopelessness. During this time, I was drawn to the films that comforted me—90s teen movies. These themes of disaffection and disillusionment were ever-present in the media that comforted me and brought me back to myself. Drawing on existentialism, the grunge movement, and my own personal feelings of isolation was what helped me create this work. The costuming and music is an homage to my mother, who introduced me to this media that brings me comfort and helps me fuel the angst and desire for non-conformity in my work.
